The Southwest Indiana Community Organizations Active in Disaster (COAD) was established to enhance disaster preparedness and response across the counties of Gibson, Posey, Spencer, Vanderburgh, and Warrick. Recognizing the need for a coordinated approach to disaster management, the Southwest Indiana COAD brings together a diverse network of voluntary organizations, community organizations, private and public entities, faith-based groups, local businesses, and government and emergency officials.
The Southwest Indiana COAD was founded on the principles of communication, coordination, cooperation, and collaboration. Its mission is to ensure that essential services are available during disasters and to promote uniform and impartial delivery of these services. The organization does not engage directly in disaster response; instead, it empowers its member organizations to take the lead in their respective areas while fostering a spirit of teamwork.
Since its inception, the Southwest Indiana COAD has evolved into a vital resource for communities in Southwest Indiana. The organization operates under a structured governance model with a Board of Directors elected from its membership. This board oversees the strategic direction of the Southwest Indiana COAD and ensures that member organizations have a voice in decision-making processes.
Regular meetings are held to facilitate information sharing and collaboration among members. These gatherings not only strengthen relationships but also enhance collective readiness for potential disasters.
The Southwest Indiana COAD is dedicated to continuous improvement through education and outreach initiatives. By providing training opportunities and resources, the COAD equips its members with the knowledge needed to effectively prepare for, respond to and recover from disasters.
As the Southwest Indiana COAD continues to grow, it remains committed to its founding mission: fostering effective disaster response and recovery in Southwest Indiana through collaboration and shared resources. Together, we strive to build a more resilient community capable of facing any challenge that may arise.
